St Patrick's College Learning Hub
Designgroup Stapleton Elliott has had the pleasure of working with St Pat’s College Wellington to create their campus redevelopment strategy. Working collaboratively, the endorsement of the campus Master Plan sparked the design and construction of the new Chanel Learning Hub, which is stage 3 of a multi-staged construction programme.
The identified site was originally occupied by the Chanel Block which housed the Music Department and staff offices. Demolition of the original block enabled key design drivers to focus on the creation of a highly visible and translucent building form that deliberately showcases the heart of the College campus.
The Chanel Learning Hub fosters and supports collaboration, recharging, and learning together. The purpose-built facility is a multifunctional innovative learning space, allowing students from all year groups the opportunity to work, research, and learn as a class, group, or individually in a modern learning environment.
Key features of the building include acoustics designed to promote focus, collaborative workstations, and floor-to-ceiling windows that display an inviting open-plan layout with natural light all year round. The new Learning Hub respects the campus’s architectural aesthetic and connects to sheltered outdoor teaching spaces, while simultaneously transforming the look and feel of the college both within the campus and the public realm beyond.
