Kelburn Normal School

The original brief was to structurally strengthen and refurbish an existing multi-storey old brick Main Block, which housed the majority of teaching spaces. As anticipated, this was challenged by the MOE Design Review Panel (DRP).

After discussion with the MOE and robust analysis of costs for a new build solution, a new Master Plan was commissioned to incorporate removal of the old brick Main Block.

The new building responds directly to the School’s educational vision, offers greater flexibility for teaching and learning, and ensured all seismic issues were properly addressed. MOE now has a longer life solution and a community asset that the School’s community is extremely proud of.
