Alex is specifically interested in whānau, hapū and iwi developments, working from the initial marketing and procurement stages right through to Detailed Design. Co-design and partnership is important to Alex as she is invested in the increase of cultural competency, better integration of Te Ao Māori principles and practices, and forging lasting relationships with mana whenua. Our projects have the power to form meaningful bonds, creating spaces and communities where people can see themselves reflected in their surroundings.

Upholding the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi is important to Alex, who is driven by a desire to see a society and built environment that acknowledges, and actively strives, to uphold its values. She believes through architectural design we can instill a sense of mana and pride within our whānau and communities, as well as influence and change societal norms. Alex is a founding member of DGSE’s Indigenous Design Rōpū (IDR).
